Work Arrangement: Onsite
Employment Type: Contract
Duration: 12+ months

About the Role
We are seeking a Crystallization Research Scientist to support drug substance process development at the laboratory and bench scale, with a strong focus on small-molecule API crystallization and particle engineering.
This role will develop and demonstrate early fit-for-purpose crystallization processes that can evolve into commercially viable API particle-forming processes. The work will include crystallization, isolation, drying, size reduction, and related particle engineering operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support laboratory-scale drug substance process development
  • Develop and optimize small-molecule API crystallization processes
  • Support particle engineering activities including crystallization, isolation, drying, and size reduction
  • Apply chemistry and chemical engineering fundamentals to process development and scale-up
  • Design and execute experiments to understand and optimize process parameters
  • Use analytical and process characterization tools to evaluate material and process performance
  • Collaborate with organic, physical, and analytical chemists, project teams, and manufacturing personnel
Required Qualifications
  • BS or MS degree in a life science discipline, preferably Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
  • 2–5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Experience with API process development and scale-up
  • Hands-on experience with small-molecule crystallization and particle engineering
  • Strong understanding of chemistry and chemical engineering fundamentals, including kinetics, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena
  • Experience with laboratory instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, FTIR, Raman, FBRM, DSC, TGA, or XRPD
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary scientific teams
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with statistical Design of Experiments (DOE)
  • Familiarity with Quality by Design (QbD) concepts
  • Experience with laboratory automation tools
  • Familiarity with process or physical property modeling tools such as Aspen, Dynochem, or MATLAB
  • Experience developing scalable particle-forming processes for pharmaceutical drug substances
