We are searching for a talented and energetic Field Engineer to join our client's Boston-based startup. This position is made up of three parts: Linux Admin, Network Admin, and Database Admin requiring someone highly reliable, independent and technical.

Candidates need a good understanding of Linux as a Desktop platform and good Windows and/or Networking knowledge, as well as excellent communication skills and a desire to work in a client facing support role, They are implementing a really cool, cutting-edge product for a rapidly growing company and developing skills and experience in the growing RFID field.

Field Engineer

We are searching for a talented and energetic Field Engineer to join our Boston-based startup. This position is made up of three parts: Linux Admin, Network Admin, and Database Admin requiring someone highly reliable, independent and technical.


Responsibilities:

  • Install and configure Linux (RHEL) on servers and Back End Processors.
  • Install, configure, and deploy a network including router configuration, routing, vpn tunneling, DNS, firewall rules, wireless, WAN integration, network bridging and switching.
  • Set up and maintain a network of RF access points, printers, laptops, and servers on the fly in a Linux and Windows based environment.
  • Write database queries on the fly for facilitation of custom reports prepared for clients.
  • Manage customer help requests.
  • Give tutorial presentations on the nTAG to audiences of 10 - 5000 attendees.

Technical Requirements:

  • Linux / Unix: memory management, ability to diagnose pipeline / server load issues, write basic shell scripts other admin duties as required.
  • Routers: thorough understanding and dynamic configuration of Firewall, DNS, VPN, WAN, Bridging, DHCP, Switching, and Port Forwarding.
  • Network Troubleshooting/diagnostics, monitoring and security which includes the understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, Multicasting, Broadcasting, and the OSI layer.
  • Relational Database Experience: The ability to extrapolate data using multiple joins and query tools.
  • Crystal Reports 7.0 or higher
